    Addiction Counseling Skills (21 hrs) Course Description

    Along with Principles of Addiction Treatment and Case Conceptualization and Documentation, Addiction Counseling Skills is considered to be part of the “Core Curriculum” and basic to the foundational training of an addiction counselor. The purpose of this training is to provide a framework and counseling model for working with clients with substance misuse and addiction. The focus of the training is to teach the counseling skills needed to assist individuals in processing their information and move toward the change process. The models utilized are client-centered, counselor-directed therapy along with motivational spirit of counseling. Recording and feedback will assist the participants in developing a standard level of counseling skills proficiency.
    Meet the instructor

    Thea Wessel

    Thea has been working in the mental health and addictions field for fifteen years and has worked with individuals with trauma, adverse life experiences, and the shame these kinds of experiences can have on their day-to-day experience. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) and has a Masters Addiction Certificate (MAC) and National Cert. for Adolescent Addiction Counselor (NCAAC). Her goal in therapy is to encourage and challenge individuals to become the best they desire to be.
